the new "superwoke" movie was not leftist propoganda

I heard so much about how Superman 2025 was an insanely woke piece of media with heavy handed references to current politics, but when I watched it I was surprised to see that it really wasn't.

(Spoiler warning)

The movie starts with Superman being healed by his robot friends after losing a fight with the "Hammer of Boravia", who we later find out is actually a clone of Superman being controlled by Lex Luthor's team. Boravia is a large country that is currently at war trying to take over the smaller country of Jarhanpur. The public is not aware of Lex Luthor and Boravia's secret financial motivations for the war, which is why they end up switching from supporting Superman to Lex Luthor. This switch is prompted by the broadcasting of a message Superman's parents sent him to Earth with. Until this broadcast, Superman had only heard the first half of the message, but the second half reveals that his parents sent him to Earth to control and rule over humans.

There's a pretty obvious political parallel here. The war between Boravia and Jarhanpur is reminiscent of the currently ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine, which I won't be explaining because I'm not educated enough to do so and it would take way too long for an article about superman. I think describing either side of the Israel Palestine conflict as "woke" or "conservative" is dishonest, and the term woke in general has been beaten to death. It reminds me of when people say someone is woke for caring about the environment even though the environment isn't a political issue, but a human one. I understand that the main perspective from those who are on the political left is that Palestine should be free, but I also think that just because a superman movie (a franchise which has never been afraid of politics) takes a stance on a current event it shouldn't be labeled as woke.

Superman may be the defender of "truth, justice, and the American way", but he was never supposed to just be the American dream. Since the beginning when he was created by Jerry Siegel and Soe Shuster, he was supposed to represent the Jewish experience (being forced to emigrate from his home). I think that this detail is very interesting when seen through the lens of the Israel Palestine war, and it really shows that Superman has never not been political.

At this point in my research I decided to find a few articles from different perspectives, people who DID think the movie was SuperWoke, and see if I could try to understand. And then I found the worst article ever written and it made me so mad!!! I will be addressing my qualms in the form of a list-

1. "First of all, did you know that Superman was an alien? He is—and they let you know it A LOT—so much so that it’s as if the writers reach through the screen and hit you over the head with the concept that he’s an immigrant over and over … and over again." - If an alien came from space we would also be like "omg it's an alien that's crazy". And as I already mentioned, that was the whole point of his character when he was created!!

2. "That’s right, the evil, rich, tech genius who is working with the evil U.S. government to help Isra…I mean Boravia also basically runs a massive social media company. It was at this point that I groaned and realized that they were trying to imply that Luthor was Elon Musk." - who actually likes Elon Musk?? I understand being neutral, I understand hating him, but liking him is just so odd, he has no positive qualities. The concept of an evil rich guy has been in superhero movies since the first camera was invented, and of course they would reference social media, the movie is set in 2025.

3. "This movie is fun if for some reason you can get over every single intentional passive reference to current politics. But in reality, it’s just an empty shell of a superhero film wrapped around nonstop political messaging." AHHHHHHHHH NO NO AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Note: The movie's conflict could also be compared to the war of Russia and Ukraine, but I wanted to focus on the Israel Palestine aspect.
